Personal Bio
Mrs. Mary Ellen Anselmo was born and raised in Kansas City and is the youngest
of four children. She attended St. Francis Xavier Catholic Grade School,
Loretto Academy, an all girls Catholic high school, and received her bachelors
degree in English and Education from the University of Missouri at Kansas City.
This is her 32nd year of teaching and her 23rd year at St. Regis.
Mrs. Anselmo has been married to her husband, Jerry, for 39 years. They
have three children - two daughters, Julie and Lori, and a son, Brian. They are
also the proud grandparents of two little boys, Massimo and Luca. After
many years of enjoying four other dogs, they recently welcomed into their home
the newest addition to their family, a King Charles spaniel named Sofia Loren.
Mrs. Anselmo is an avid sports fan. All of her children were very active
in many sports through grade school and high school. Her son went on to play
football at the University of Missouri. She and her husband spent most
of their free time attending or coaching their children's games. They
especially enjoyed traveling to other Big 12 schools and to Columbia to watch
their son play football. She and her husband still enjoy attending the
games at their children's former high schools and are big MU Tiger fans.
Also, during her free time, Mrs. Anselmo enjoys spending as much time with
her grandsons as possible which, fortunately, is quite a bit of time since they
live here in town. She also loves container gardening, swimming,
traveling, and reading.
Mrs. Anselmo says that when people ask her why in the world she would want to
teach middle school that her reply is simple. She loves kids and feels
that they have a lot to offer her, too! She believes that they are her
future. By preparing them to be successful not only in their language arts
skills but their people skills, too, they will become productive members of our
society who will be making good decisions for the welfare of all people.
Her philosophy in the classroom is that every child
can learn, if given a chance. She believes her curriculum is very
important because she is teaching her students the skills needed to help them
communicate well in whatever career path they choose.
